I’m a beer girl, but at Ohana Christmas last weekend, my friend’s husband brought out a bottle of Madeira to try.

An amazing dessert wine from V. Sattui Winery in St. Helena, California,  Madeira is: “Solera-made, wood-aged wine, fortified with brandy. Our Solera is over 120 years old, one of the oldest in the U.S. The wine is sweet and luscious with flavors of almonds, caramel, toffee and orange zest. It shares similar characteristics with a 20-year-old Tawny Port. A collector’s wine.”

Not available in stores or restaurants, I felt pretty lucky and in good company with this Napa Valley treat.
