Pulled pork sandwich from Southpaw BBQ

In Denver my favorite BBQ joint was Sam Taylor’s in the Glendale neighborhood where I lived. A few years later, in 2012 when I was living in Phoenix, I read an announcement that after 15 years, Sam Taylor’s was closing. Devastation. Denial. Mourning.

To this day, I still compare every single pulled pork sandwich I eat to Sam’s. There’s always plenty of BBQ controversy and arguments over which joint is better, but don’t bother. Sam Taylor’s was the creme de la creme for me!

Present day: (not to mention San Francisco Beer Week) A suggestion was made to try out Southpaw BBQ in the Mission neighborhood of San Francisco. Plenty of good beer including some smoked beer flights for SF Beer Week, not to mention some fun cocktails (I still want to go back and try the Improved Mendota that’s made with Firestone Union Jack IPA and fresh grapefruit) but what about the menu?

I ordered the pulled BBQ pork sandwich with a side of hushpuppies. Add a mess of their Memphis style sauce and some of their homemade pickles? Let’s just say I haven’t been that happy after eating a pulled pork sandwich probably since my Sam Taylor days in Denver.

Awesome atmosphere, friendly staff and great food. I’ll definitely be back.
