Hell or High Watermelon

My friend Melinda raves + raves about this watermelon beer that 21st Amendment does so I finally went and checked it out for myself.

21st Amendment Brewery

Another item off my check list!

The restaurant and brew place is located just a couple blocks away from AT&T Park. Food – awesome. Vibe – chill. Lately I’ve been trying a lot of IPAs which makes it harder to get back into wheat beers, but 21st Amendment’s High or Hell Watermelon beer hit the spot. And that slice of watermelon? Perfect!

Low on hops and ABV, this is a lovely wheat with just a subtle hint of watermelon. Definitely a beer I could drink all day. Cheers!

Idiot IPA by Coronado Brewing Company

International IPA Day was August 1st so I’ve got some IPA beer posts to get out!

First up: Coronado Brewing Company‘s Idiot IPA

Coronado Brewing Company's website

This Imperial IPA from Coronado is part of their Crown Series and is available year round. It’s one of my favorite West Coast IPAs at the moment so check it out if you’re really into hops!

Available in 4 packs and 22 oz. bottles like the one I found at BevMo at 8.5% ABV this one is definitely something I’ll purchase again.

cheesy shrimp and rice

I made this dish one night after work and surprisingly, it came together quickly. Just make sure to have your ingredients ready! This quick dish serves one but can easily be doubled, just adjust the ingredients to fit the serving size. || Read more

Goods from the Famers Market

Last week I got a chance to check out Alemany Farmers Market in Bernal Heights, a neighborhood in San Francisco. All I can say is prepare yourself for craziness and more produce than you’ve ever seen in one place.

mini eggplants

loved these mini purple eggplants

I was like a kid in a candy store except this kid goes crazy over potatoes, kale and early girl tomatoes! Open every Saturday, this farmers market was founded in 1943 and boasts a ton of awesome spots to eat and more than enough vendors to make sure you find what you’re looking for. Check them out on Facebook!

potato mix

mixed yukon gold, red + purple potatoes ready for the grill

These mixed potatoes were perfect for the grill. Chop up a mix of yukon gold, red and purple and throw ’em in a bowl with some olive oil, sea salt, pepper, garlic, basil, red pepper flakes and throw them in a tin foil pocket for the grill (I also top the potatoes with a couple pads of butter on top before I seal the tin foil up).

Sunday August 25 marked the first annual San Francisco Bacon + Beer Festival.

I was there to help out The Beer Wench and the Bison Brewing crew but there was plenty of time to get some tasty samples!

Bison Brewing

Bison Brewing Company’s setup

The beer list was impressive (21st Amendment, Alaskan Brewing Co., Green Flash, Lagunitas, Sierra Nevada, Stone Brewing Co. – see the full list here).

Alaskan Brewing Company had their smoked porter which I’m not a fan of but it would make some excellent beer chicken!

Bison’s Honey Basil Ale is awesome! Also, Hop Cuvee which is Bison’s version of a West Coast Ale. Awesome stuff from Dan + his team!

Stone was serving up some R&R Coconut IPA, a collaboration brew that was surprisingly delicious coming from someone that hates coconut.

My favorite + most fitting for the occasion was the Brown Bacon Ale from Uncommon Brewers. It certainly didn’t hurt that Alec had his keg right next to us during the event!

If you saw me at the event, I was helping hand out some awesome Maple Bacon potato chips from Kettle.

If you were at the event I’d love to know what your favorite beers were! To read more about the event check out Eat Boston‘s website.

black bean and mango salsa

This black bean + mango salad is a perfect side dish for a protein like chicken or fish or rolled into a burrito but could also be a quick snack on it’s own. I made this side dish with lime chicken. || Read more

my IPA choices

I love today. International IPA Day 2013. Ashley Routson aka The Beer Wench, founded IPA Day in 2011.

The Beer Wench and me!

The Beer Wench, Ashley and I enjoying some bottomless mimosas

Honestly, I can’t wait to see what the future holds for this special day for one of my favorite styles of beer. Listen to a short interview The Beer Wench did today to get a quick history lesson of the India Pale Ale.

Now, what’s your favorite IPA? Leave me a comment and let me know – Cheers.
